Cardington Developer Must Meet its Responsibility over Shed Maintenance say Lib Dems

18 Oct 2007

Bedford Borough Council Planning Committee this week approved an application for a 425 home development behind Cardington airship sheds, and Liberal Democrats have responded by warning that the owners must meet their responsibility to maintain the grade 2 listed Number One Shed.

Commenting, Cllr Christine McHugh said:

"I'm glad that Shed 1 will be refurbished. It should be remembered that it's the responsibility of the owner of listed building to maintain it, so I hope the owners will take that responsibility seriously and we don't have another crisis in 10-15 years time. If you couldn't afford the upkeep on a listed house you shouldn't buy it and the same goes for the shed - it's just that much more huge!"

The planning consent includes the refurbishment of the shed and its use for general industrial purposes.
