Check train times this weekend, the Odell Viaduct is being reconstructed
Network Rail is advising passengers in Bedfordshire to check before they travel this weekend.
Network Rail is undertaking essential railway improvement work at Odell Viaduct near Odell and Sharnbrook as part of the Midland Main Line Upgrade, the biggest programme of improvements to the Midland Main Line since its completion in 1870. As part of the £1.5billion investment, the bridge needs to be raised to allow for the safe clearance of overhead line equipment in preparation for electrification of the line between London to Kettering and Corby via Bedford.
Over the weekend Network Rail workers will demolish and reconstruct the bridge during 54 hours of round-the-clock-work. Additionally, work will continue further north on the Midland Main Line to improve line speeds at Market Harborough.
Throughout the weekend, a reduced service between Bedford and St Pancras will connect into replacement buses between Bedford and Leicester and Kettering and Corby. Train services will resume on Monday 12th November, when work on the bridge will be completed before the first train service.
Passengers planning on travelling are advised to check before they travel via National Rail Enquiries and East Midlands Trains.
