Conservatives in Northamptonshire plan to offload the runing of libraries

Conservative-run Northamptonshire Council is consulting on plans to offload the running of libraries according to the BBC

The library proposal forms part of the Conservative council's financial plans. Last year the authority put forward a model to outsource some libraries but this idea was quashed following a Judicial Review.

This contrasts with the situation in Bedford, where under the Mayor Dave Hodgson and the Liberal Democrats, the Council have maintained modern and accessible library buildings and encouraged community participation in delivery of services. The libraries using LibraryPlus now provide greater choice and flexibility including extended opening hours through use of self-service hours.
