Next weekend we will be celebrating the Coronation of King Charles III.

The Coronation of a new Monarch will be a once in a lifetime event for many of us.

To celebrate the Coronation there will be a special Craft Market in Bedford town centre on Saturday 6 May. There will also be live performances, balloon modelling and face painting in Harpur Square.

There are a number of family activities at all the libraries across the Borough, starting from today which run until 7 May. Crafts include creating royal bookmarks, window decorations, and scratch art. There will also be additional crafts, such as creating bunting and colouring, in all the libraries from Tuesday 2 to Friday 5 May during staffed hours. You can find out more including what is on when at https://www.bedford.gov.uk/libraries.

There will also be a Coronation trail across Bedford town centre.

There will also be many street parties taking place across the Borough.

We will, of course, be flying the Union Flag at both Borough Hall and the Old Town Hall for the Coronation.

As well as street parties on the Saturday, Bromham Mill will be showing the Coronation - followed by a screening of Paddington the film.

There are also events on Sunday 7 May including a Coronation Picnic at Elstow Playing Field from 12pm and Christ the King, on Harrowden Road will be holding an event from 2pm. Podington Parish Council have arranged a Service of Thanksgiving in the Church at 11am, which will be followed by a village parade from12:15pm and a Village Fete at 1pm and then the lighting of the Beacon at 7pm after a 'Chippy Tea' and before a production of 'George and the Dragon'.
