Cost of Living Crisis Survey
We are facing the worst fall in living standards in a generation due to spiralling costs of energy and food and declining real terms wages.
Bedford Borough Council has declared a Cost of Living Crisis and has called on the government to take action to help struggling residents.
The Council provides support through its 100% Council Tax Reduction Scheme for the worst off and free school meal vouchers every holiday (for those eligible). You can find out more about the support at http://bedfordlibdems.org.uk/cost-of-living-support.
Mayor Dave Hodgson is currently working on a £1million plus fund that will provide insulation, boiler replacement, double glazing and other home warming solutions to support residents in fuel poverty and provide help those who need it most. Details will be released when the scheme is finalised.
Mayor Dave is keen to find out how the Cost of Living Crisis is affecting you and your family and we have set up a special survey, which you can fill in here and share your experiences.
The Liberal Democrats have also called on the Government to cancel October's price cap increase. Cancelling the increase would save a typical household in Bedford Borough around £1,700 a year. This would mean a total estimated saving for households in Bedford Borough of £118,483,707 off their electricity and gas bills. The cost could be met by expanding the windfall tax on oil and gas company profits.
