Covanta Slammed Over Appalling Incinerator Works Disruption
A local Councillor has hit out at Covanta over the 'appalling disruption' its incinerator development is causing for local residents and road users.
The US waste giant is constructing a controversial 600,000 tonne per year waste incinerator just outside the village of Stewartby, after it was given approval nationally despite local opposition.
New photos taken by a local resident show stationary extra-wide delivery vehicles on the approach to the development site blocking the pavement and half of the road. Liberal Democrat Councillor for Elstow, Stewartby and Kempston Hardwick Tim Hill, who fought against the development application, says that this is just the latest example of the disruption happening at the entrance to the site, and is calling for immediate action.
Commenting, Cllr Hill said: "Despite the warm words and promises about safety and consideration for local residents, the traffic management and layout at the site is utterly unacceptable. This is just the latest example of the appalling disruption being caused by the development works. These vast lorries are waiting outside the site, blocking the pavement and half of the road, and it is quite frankly dangerous for all road users.'
"With a huge amount of development still to come on the site, this has to stop immediately. Stewartby isn't Covanta's car park."
