Cuts and inaction put children's safety at risk

School crossing patrols are under threat with a £60,000 cut to these vital services proposed by the Conservative Cabinet.

Cllr Christine McHugh (Goldington Ward) highlighted the key importance of school crossings at the Council’s Budget Overview and Scrutiny Committee on Thursday evening.

Cllr Christine McHugh commented after the meeting, “Very little effort has been made to fill current vacancies. The most recent advert for a school crossing patrol person was over a year ago. This means that there a number of locations without crossing patrols in place. Worse still, the proposal from the Conservatives is to permanently remove at least 8 crossing patrol posts. Liberal Democrats are pushing hard for the Conservative Group to reverse these cuts.”
