Mayor Dave Hodgson has run a positive campaign for re-election in Thursday's mayoral election, based on his record of saving services, creating jobs and standing up for Bedford Borough. Looking ahead, if re-elected Mayor Dave has pledged to continue to prioritise:

WINNING INVESTMENT AND JOBS - Mayor Dave will ensure jobs remain a top priority, building on the stunning jobs growth since he was first elected which has dramatically outstripped both the regional and national rate.

SAVING SERVICES - He will continue to protect services in the face of brutal government cuts, while keeping council tax down.

KEEPING BEDFORD MOVING - Mayor Dave will deliver a £25 million road resurfacing plan and a decongestion programme tackling hotspots, and he'll keep fighting for a better rail service.

OUR ENVIRONMENT - He will scrap single-use plastics from the Council and head for zero carbon emissions, having already cut the Council's carbon emissions by half.

Commenting Mayor Dave said: "There is a lot at stake in this election. We have successfully avoided the widespread cuts to services and closures of cherished facilities such as libraries seen elsewhere in the face of government funding cuts. Don't put that at risk - please support me and your Liberal Democrat council candidates in the elections on Thursday."
