Dementia Action Week - Time for Government to Cure The Care System

This week is Dementia Action Week, and this year the Alzheimer's Society is calling on the Government to Cure the Care System. They are asking people to back their campaign for action to reverse the damage done by decades of underfunding and neglect at a national level. They argue that that it doesn't have to be this way, and that 'With the right support people with dementia can live a good quality of life, doing what matters most to them for as long as possible.'

Liberal Democrat Cllr Wendy Rider, Bedford Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Adult Services, agrees. Commenting, she said: "By 2025, there will be one million people living with dementia in this country. Fixing the care system in order that people with dementia can live a good quality of life is a huge national challenge. It's time it was treated like one, and tackled properly on behalf of those with dementia and their families."

Local charity Carers in Bedfordshire have also announced here that they are joining with the Alzheimer's Society to call for the Government to Cure the Care System, and are encouraging people to sign the petition to Cure the Care System.
