Don't forget the Tree Giveaway

Mayor Dave Hodgson at the Tree Giveaway - February 2022

This week the Council is giving away 5,000 trees for local residents, businesses, schools and community groups to collect and plant in their local areas.

The first giveaway took place on Wednesday and was incredibly popular. There is also another giveaway this Saturday, between 10am-3pm at Oasis Beach Pool. Residents can collect up to five trees, and businesses, community groups and schools can collect up to twenty five trees, with stakes and guards provided if needed.

The trees must be planted on private land within the Borough, with the owner's permission and addresses of the locations will be taken when the trees are collected. Guidance and advice about how to look after your new trees, including a species guide is available on the Council's website at https://www.bedford.gov.uk/leisure-and-culture/parks-and-open-spaces/trees-in-bedford/.

There is also another public tree planting session this coming Sunday at Community Woodland at Octagon Woods/Octagon Farm North, adjoining The Grange Estate, organised by the Forest of Marston Vale. The planting will start at 11am and conclude at 3pm. There is more information including a link to a map at https://www.marstonvale.org/Event/public-tree-planting-2022-octagon-woods.

Planting trees provides such a boost to the local environment, from helping to tackle climate change, making the local area more beautiful, improving health and wellbeing, and creating better habitats for local wildlife. Over this year's planting season, the Council and its partners have been involved in the planting of over 10,000 trees across the Borough.
