Commenting on the Care Quality Commission's (CQC) damning report following its latest inspection of the East of England Ambulance Service Trust (EEAST), Bedford Borough Council Liberal Democrat Health Spokesperson Cllr Dean Crofts has slammed the Trust for failing its staff and the public at large, and described the situation as 'an absolute scandal'.

He said: "The CQC's findings are deeply shocking. The Trust has failed its staff and failed the public at large, over an extended period of time.'

"Residents across Bedford Borough and the East of England need to know they can rely on this crucial emergency service, and urgent action is required to put things right. The circumstances that have persisted at the Trust are an absolute scandal. With the Trust's leadership having failed to act on previous inspection findings, the CQC must stand ready to take further enforcement action if satisfactory measures are not taken."
