Businesses eligible for financial support under the government's schemes in response to the coronavirus pandemic have been encouraged to ensure they access the vital support available.

Bedford Borough Council Finance Portfolio Holder, Liberal Democrat Cllr Michael Headley, delivered the message this week and added that all applications received are being processed as swiftly as possible in order that businesses get support as soon as possible.

He has also praised Council officers for their work in setting up the necessary process, which has been praised for its speed by local businesses including in this Bedford Independent story.

Businesses can find more information about the financial support available and other advice and guidance on Bedford Borough Council's website here.

Commenting, Cllr Headley said: "As of the end of the day on 31 March, the Council had received 767 completed forms from businesses and 321 grants have already been approved.'

"We are working through the remaining forms as quickly as possible to get this vital support to businesses as soon as we can.'

"Businesses that have already had their grant approved will receive their payments in the next few days.'

"We would encourage any eligible businesses that haven't done so already to get in touch and claim their grant by completing the form at https://www.bedford.gov.uk/business/business-rates/"
