Elite International Cycle Race Coming to the Streets of Bedford Borough in 2014
This week saw the announcement that elite international cycle race The 2014 Women's Tour will be coming to the streets of Bedford Borough next May. The announcement confirmed that the second day of racing will conclude in Bedford. This is an elite level race, having recently been awarded the highest possible status by the international Cycling authority the UCI, meaning that the very best international cyclists are likely to feature.
This is the first ever international stage race for women on British soil, and with Bedford Borough's sporting pedigree and and huge enthusiasm for sport I look forward to joining large crowds on the route in cheering on the riders as they race along local roads on May 8th.
The sight of elite cyclists racing through the streets of Bedford Borough will provide a tremendous spectacle for people of all ages to enjoy. Details of the route through the borough are still being finalised but we are working to make sure that it gives people every opportunity to experience and enjoy The Tour at close quarters.
2013 has seen a wonderful array of cultural occasions in the Borough, and following this announcement it's great to be able to look ahead to next year and this major sporting event for all to enjoy next May.
