Bedford's 40th Anniversary River Festival is this weekend, on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th July. This year's event is set to be the biggest and best yet, and you can download a programme (including site map) on the council website at www.bedford.gov.uk/riverfestival.

Commenting, Mayor Dave Hodgson said: "I've seen the Bedford River Festival change and grow since the town first celebrated opening of a navigable route to the sea from Bedford forty years ago. It's now one of the biggest free festivals in the country, and the fortieth anniversary Bedford River Festival this weekend will be even bigger and better than ever.'

"The River Festival is truly remarkable in the way that it has retained its character as a community event, which showcases the very best of Bedford. If you're taking part or planning a visit, I hope you have a fantastic Bedford River Festival 2018!"

In his recent column for the final edition of the Bedfordshire Midweek, Mayor Dave wrote about the reasons why this year's event is extra special, and why the river rightly remains the focal point of the whole occasion. You can read his piece here

Earlier in the week, Mayor Dave also posted some photos of marquees in place in the newest River Festival location on St Mary's Gardens on his Facebook page, here.
