Environment & Climate
We will continue to tackle climate change and protect our local environment by investing in sustainable technology and reducing carbon emissions to achieve a Net Zero Carbon Council by 2030. Below are just some of the things we have achieved and our plan for the future working with the Council, local businesses and residents.
Our record
- Reduced Council carbon emissions by over 62%
- Invested in renewable energy - Archimedes screws and 8,000 panel solar farm
- Planting tens of thousands of trees every year
- Installing EV charging points across the Borough faster than anyone in the region
- Commitment to sustainable transport, improving cycling infrastructure and maintaining supported bus mileage
Our plan
- Deliver the Local Plan 2040, putting climate change at the heart of planning policy
- Implementing a new food waste collection service
- Seeking solutions to expand our EV fleet to heavy vehicles
- Expand the award-winning Bugs and Bees project
- Grow the green economy supporting skills development in sustainable industries
We have dealt with our fair share of crises in the last few years, but the Climate Emergency remains the planet's biggest threat. Our Borough can't afford to take any backwards steps by changing course now, we must continue our march towards net zero.
