Final set of Traffic Light upgrades for 2020

Cllr Charles Royden

Bedford Borough Council has carried out several traffic light upgrade projects through the Transporting Bedford project including at the junctions of London Road / Elstow Road, Newnham Avenue / Goldington Road, and Bromham Road / Newnham Street.

All of these upgrades have seen equipment and software put in place to improve the detection and control of traffic, to help traffic flow better at these well-known congested junctions.

Next week will see the final traffic light upgrade project this year, at the junction of Kingsway / Prebend Street. There will be temporary traffic lights in place during these works to keep traffic moving, with occasional lane closures necessary to install traffic detection equipment.

These works are expected to take three weeks, and follow on from the upgrade of the lights at Kingsway / Cauldwell St junction, which will be successfully completed by the end of this week.

Councillor Charles Royden, Portfolio Holder for Transport said "I would like to thank everyone for their patience while we have carried these works out. We always try to minimise the impact that roadworks will have as we tackle congestion hotspots and improve our roads for the future."
