Ahead of a great summer in Bedford Borough, the first Rivercare event of 2014 takes place on Saturday 26th April.

The Kite Festival and River Festival will both be taking place along the River Great Ouse this summer and we want to make sure it is looking its best for the celebrations.

Lib Dem Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said: "The summer of 2014 looks set to be another busy one with the Kite Festival in June and the River Festival in July as well as various regattas and other celebrations all based on and around the River Great Ouse.

"The Council's Community Rivercare events give everyone the chance to come together and help to improve the river and embankment in a fun and friendly atmosphere."

Bedford Sub Aqua Divers, Bedford Scuba Divers, The Environment Agency and the Viking Kayak Club will be in the water removing rubbish from the surface and riverbed.

The event runs from 10am till noon and volunteers are asked to meet at the Suspension Bridge. All equipment will be supplied.

The event will also be supported by the John Bunyan Community Boat who will be supplying the refreshments and will take volunteers for a short trip along The Embankment after the event.
