Flying the Flag for LGBT History Month
The rainbow flag was flying from Borough Hall today to mark the start of LGBT History Month. LGBT History Month is an opportunity for people to learn more about the histories of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in Britain, and celebrate their lives and achievements.
Commenting last week, Mayor Dave Hodgson said: "The Rainbow Flag flying at Borough Hall is a small but important symbol of our commitment to equal rights, and I hope it sends a clear message of support and solidarity with LGBT residents living in Bedford.'
"In the week of Holocaust Memorial Day we are reminded in the most powerful way of the dangers of bigotry and prejudice in all its forms and it is fitting that we should be making this public statement of our commitment to equality and inclusion in our community."
The Bedford Borough Council Community Engagement team has established good working relationships with members of local LGBT communities, but are always looking to establish more.
