Today is UN Day, an international day marking the anniversary of the entry into force in 1945 of the UN Charter, and Bedford Borough Council is flying the UN flag at Borough Hall to mark the occasion.

Commenting on Facebook alongside this photo, Mayor Dave Hodgsonsaid: "You'll have to take my word for it on this still, grey day, but we're flying the United Nations flag at Borough Hall today to mark United Nations Day. UN Day marks the anniversary of the entry into force in 1945 of the UN Charter.'

"This officially brought the UN into being, with the aim of supporting collective action to realise peace, development and human rights for all.'

"With the ratification of this founding document by the majority of its signatories, including the five permanent members of the Security Council, the United Nations officially came into being."
