Funding Boost for Energy Saving Projects
Community groups are invited to apply to the Climate Change Fund for match funding of between £5,000 and £20,000 to fund measures that will contribute to the reduction of carbon emissions within Bedford Borough.
The fund is open to voluntary and community groups; not for profit organisations, registered charities and public sector bodies. Applicants will need to provide match funding of at least 50% of the total project cost and the project itself must be located within Bedford Borough.
The next Sustainability Committee meeting where applications will be considered is on the 17th of September 2014, for which applications will need to be received by the Council before the 7th of August.
Measures that have been included in recent successful applications include low energy lighting, cavity wall and loft insulation; and energy efficient heating boilers which lower the energy consumption of community buildings, reducing carbon emissions as well as energy costs.
Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said: "Since 2010, the Climate Change Fund has allocated funding to 36 projects, at a wide range of community buildings and local facilities across the Borough, saving energy and cutting carbon emissions.
"The Fund can help a huge range of groups from community groups to schools by providing match funding to install new technology or make other improvements to their buildings which have a real effect on reducing energy costs and improving efficiency. "
"If any groups have an idea for how they could save energy in their buildings, I would urge them to get in touch as quickly as possible and find out how we might be able to help them."
All monies approved during the current financial year must be spent before March 31st 2015.
