Half-Term activities at the Higgins and Bedford libraries
There is plenty happening at The Higgins and Bedford's libraries this half-term with workshops, portrait collage making, creating abstract art, and pop-art printing.
On Tuesday 12th, Wednesday 13th and Friday 15th February, at the Higgins there will be creative art and science workshops inspired by the current 'We Are Five' exhibition.
Local artist Kemi Onabule will be running a 'Collage Conversations' workshop on Tuesday 12th February, inviting children to imagine that portraits could talk and what they could talk about together, while creating a portrait collage with a difference. Little Science Labs will be hosting 'Abstract Chromatography' on Wednesday 13th February, where children can experiment with chromatography and create an abstract art work. Then on Friday 15th February, local artist Katie Allen will be running a 'Pop-Art Printing' workshop, taking inspiration from Andy Warhol and creating pop-art prints.
All workshops start at 11am, 12.30pm and 2pm, cost £3 per child and are aimed at 5 to 13 year olds. They can be booked by visiting The Higgins Bedford. Find out more at www.thehigginsbedford.org.uk
Councillor Sarah Gallagher, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture said "The Higgins Bedford is a great place to take the kids during half-term, right in the heart of our town centre. Not only are there fascinating exhibitions to explore, but a variety of different sessions and workshops where they can try something new."
Also this half-term Bedford's libraries are all holding arts and crafts sessions for kids throughout half-term, with each library having a different theme. It's all dinosaurs and dragons at Bedford Central Library, with sessions building dragon models, and making bookmarks and crowns, and dinosaur masks and window decorations. Bromham Library is going medieval, with craft sessions including design a sword and create a 'castle door scene'. It's off to space at Kempston Library, with a chance to create a solar system for your window, or make a flying rocket using straws. Everyone's a superhero at Wootton Library, where kids can make a superhero mask, take part in the superhero treasure hunt, and make a superhero themed glider. Finally, at Putnoe Library it's all happening with music crafts, create your own carnival mask, and royal court crafts.
Councillor Sarah Gallagher, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture added "There are a huge variety of craft sessions happening across our libraries this half-term. This is a great chance to visit your local library, with opportunities for your kids to try something new and get creative."
