Happy International Women's Day
Bedford Borough Liberal Democrats are celebrating International Women's Day, and many local groups and organisations have been marking the occasion.
The Women of Bedford group has had a busy schedule of events in the lead-up to the event. They are campaigning and fundraising for the installation of a statue of Amy Walmsley, which would be Bedford's first, long overdue, statue of a woman. You can read more about how they brought Amy Walmsley to life in a collaboration with The Place Theatre for International Women's Day in the Bedford Independent, here. Meanwhile, you can read more about Women of Bedford and their campaigns on their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/BedfordWomen.
The Bedfordshire Archives service have published a series of fascinating photos and information about a number of pioneering Bedfordshire women on Twitter today - you can see them here.
The Higgins Bedford has published a new quiz on Women's Art History, where you can test your knowledge of women artists featured in their collections. You can have a go here.
Nationally, Liberal Democrat Leader Ed Davey has spoken in a video here about the way caring is work that too often falls on women's shoulders, and paid tribute and said thank you to all the women taking on extra caring responsibilites during this pandemic. Meanwhile on the Liberal Democrat Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/libdems you can hear from Liberal Democrat MPs paying tribute to women who have inspired them.
