Happy New Year!

2023 is set to be an exciting year here in Bedford Borough with a number of events to look forward to. These include the return of the Kite and Motoring Festival, the Bedford Park Concerts and we have an extra Bank Holiday for the Coronation of King Charles III.

The UK will mark the Coronation of King Charles III with a three-day bank holiday weekend from Saturday 6th May to Monday 8th May 2022, with the Coronation taking place on Saturday 6th May.

Mayor Dave Hodgson has announced that the Council are, again, waiving the usual administration fee for street party road closures to help residents celebrate the Coronation. You can see more about this at https://www.bedford.gov.uk/your-council/about-council/coronation-king-charles-iii

Street parties are a great opportunity for communities to come together, usually organised by groups of residents who get together and make arrangements to celebrate with their neighbours, friends and families.

The King's Coronation marks an unprecedented event and an opportunity for our towns and villages to come together to celebrate. Mayor Dave and the Council are waiving the application fee for holding a Coronation street party. Hopefully as many neighbourhoods as possible will take the opportunity to join in.

Mayor Dave wants to make it easy for local residents and communities to organise a street party and celebrate this special occasion.

The ever popular Kite and Motoring Festival will take place on 24th and 25th June. The festival will be expanded in 2023 to include river entertainment and children's activities as well as a vegan food section.

Some big names have already been announced for the Bedford Park Concerts including Sting, The Jacksons, Sister Sledge and George Ezra. There will also be a special West End Proms featuring Sheridan Smith and Danny Mac.
