Health
We have a long history of campaigning for a fair deal for Bedford Borough on health. It is essential that our residents can easily access the health services they need. The best way to do this is for the government to ensure that health infrastructure is in place before housing is built.
Our record
- Saved maternity and A&E services at Bedford Hospital
- Stopped the closure of Putnoe Walk-in Centre
- Our petition for better primary care access has over 1,000 signatures
- Written to government countless times with new funding suggestions
- Held meetings with GPs to discuss what they need
Our plan
- Demand a multi-year contract for Putnoe Walk-in Centre
- Continue to press government to prioritise primary care infrastructure
- Meet with developers again to look at ways to reduce the costs of building surgeries
- Continue discussions with the ICB about how we can help them
- Promote active and healthy lifestyles to alleviate some pressure on our health services
The number of patients per GP is growing each year. We need more GPs, but we need the surgery space first for them to work in. We have a record on successful health campaigns, and we will continue to stand up for Bedford Borough so that our residents get a fair deal.
