This afternoon I'm heading down to Bedford Central Library to take part in an information and taster session on researching your family history at the Borough's libraries, in support of a new project running throughout February. The Council's Library Service has linked up with Family History Detectives to promote family history at Bedford, Kempston and Wootton Libraries this month.

If you get along to one of these libraries this month you will be provided with free access to computers and library online resources including www.ancestrylibrary.com, and the taster sessions being run today will help people find out what resources are available and how to get more out of them. Help will be at hand to support people to piece things together from resources such as old records and photographs. A session took place at Wootton Library this morning, another is going on this lunchtime at Kempston Library until 1pm, with the session I will be joining taking place at 2pm at Bedford Central Libary. If you're around in town, why not come along and find out more about researching your family history?

Those who have been bitten by the family history bug know how fascinating and enjoyable it can be. Through this initiative, it is hoped that people will be able to get even more out of their research at their local library. I'm personally looking forward to sharing the results of my research on Saturday with members of my family, which for many, including myself, is the most enjoyable aspect of learning more about family history.

Six week courses in researching family history are also running at all three libraries, starting on Wednesday 8th February. For more details on the courses available, contact any of the three libraries taking part.
