Data "lost or stolen" throughout region

The Liberal Democrats have cast light on a shameful record of data handling within the East of England's health system.

Norman Lamb, the party's health spokesperson discovered the figures after making a freedom of information requests.

"This is appalling." said Henry Vann, Liberal Democrat parliamentary campaigner, adding: "There is no doubt that our hard-working medical staff do a fantastic job. What worries me is that this government insists on collecting more and more data, which will inevitably be left on buses, lost, or stolen."

"It is as if this government, and the MPs - including Patrick Hall - who have supported vast, and expensive data collection schemes, have forgotten that data gets lost or stolen on a regular basis."

"The people of Bedford and Kempston need to know that their data is safe and secure with their health service, and politicians are not doing anything to calm our fears."
