Heritage Open Days 2013
Bedford Borough Council is working with Local Heritage Properties to secure a borough-wide promotion in which generous volunteers unlock historic buildings and invite members of the public inside to view them.
Heritage Open Days 2013 will run from Thursday 12th - Sunday 15thSeptember and will enable people to visit many properties across the borough, and all completely FREE of charge.
Lib Dem Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said: "A wide range of historic properties across Bedford Borough are throwing open their doors for this year's Heritage Open Days. Each of the locations holds fascinating stories and this is a great opportunity to learn more about our local history and about some of our historic local landmarks. It's been a fantastic summer of events in Bedford Borough and I hope lots of people are able to take advantage of this invitation to look behind the facades of some of the most interesting buildings in the Borough, take a free tour or enjoy the 'have a go' taster sessions and activities."
This year will see record numbers of properties opening their doors over the weekend including the Beds & Luton Archives Service, The Panacea Museum, Bedford School Chapel, Elstow Moot Hall and Willington Dovecote along with numerous churches to name but a few. There is also a FREE guided walk around Bedford town centre called 'I never knew that!' and The Higgins Bedford are holding demonstrations and taster sessions in Traditional Crafts of the High Street which include weaving, lace making, stonemasonry, stained glass and wood working.
