Holocaust Memorial Day
Friday 27 January is Holocaust Memorial Day where we remember the millions of people murdered in the Holocaust, under Nazi Persecution, and in the genocides which followed in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia, and Darfur.
There will be three events this year in Bedford Borough to mark this important date.
At 3pm there will be a short commemoration at the Anne Frank Tree in Russell Park, where everyone is welcome. The Anne Frank Tree is a white Horse Chestnut Tree located at the back of Russell Park between Bower Street and Pembroke Street. The Anne Frank tree was planted in 2000 by Bedford Borough Council to mark Holocaust Memorial Day. Horse Chestnut trees are mentioned in Anne Frank's diary where Anne said she could see them from her attic.
At 4pm Bedford Borough Council will be lighting the Town Bridge and Riverside Bridge purple and many residents will be lighting a candle to mark Holocaust Memorial Day.
At 7:30pm Bedford Council of Faiths will be holding an online commemoration on Zoom, you can join at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86113403070?pwd=d1JMbStEWkVKeDNhQk16TFlSdjlpUT09c (Meeting ID: 861 1340 3070 Passcode: 255017)
