This year the UK will mark Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee with a four-day bank holiday weekend from Thursday 2 to Sunday 5 June 2022.

To help residents celebrate the Platinum Jubilee, Bedford Borough Council is waiving the usual administration fee for street party road closures. Street parties are a great opportunity for communities to come together, usually organised by groups of residents who get together and make arrangements to celebrate with their neighbours, friends and families.

The Council has waived the usual fee and is holding an online workshop and an event to provide information on doing a road closure. One workshop will be online on Tuesday 26 April from 6pm-7pm and you can register via www.bedford.gov.uk/leisure-and-culture/arts-and-culture/queens-platinum-jubilee, and the second will be in person on Friday 29 April from 6pm-8pm with a stall at Eat Feast on Riverside Square.

For anyone wishing to hold a street party over the extended bank holiday weekend the Council asks that applications are submitted by 22 May 2022. Residents can email road.closures@bedford.gov.uk to request a street closure.

Mayor Dave Hodgson said "Street parties are a fantastic way for communities to gather together, and celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee over this long bank holiday weekend. I'm delighted we have been able to waive the application fee for holding a Jubilee street party, enabling people to close their street for the day and come together, celebrating right on their doorsteps with neighbours, friends and families."
