Following huge investment in cycling across Bedford, improvements are on route for cyclists and pedestrians south of the town with a walking and cycling track alongside the A6 being designed this year, set to be built in 2016/17.

The Council has been working to find a way to deliver this track despite a lack of existing developer funds. Following the efforts of local Councillor Tim Hill working with officers, Highways England has taken on this project with additional national funding.

The track will be between the A6 roundabout at Wilstead Road and the junction of the A6/A421, along with signals at the A6/A421 roundabout to ensure there are safe crossings and a safe route for cyclists all the way to existing track via Progress Park.

Cllr Tim Hill said "I am delighted that the Council has been able to find a way to deliver this track by working alongside Highways England. Once complete it will make it so much easier and safer for local people who live south of Bedford, particularly in Elstow and the Wixams, to cycle or walk into the town."
