Today is the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, and Bedford Borough Liberal Democrats are encouraging local women and girls to consider pursuing work and study opportunities in science and engineering.

Bedford Borough Liberal Democrat Group Leader Cllr Christine McHugh, who is a scientist and engineer, said: "Do you want to help tackle climate change? Are you creative? Do you want to help tackle the challenges in people's everyday lives?'

"If you have answered yes to any of these, why not think about getting into science and engineering as a rewarding career that will make a difference to people?"

The Science Grrl campaign group is one of a number of organisations working to celebrate women in science and to promote science to the next generation, and you can find it on Facebook here.

Cllr McHugh spoke to BBC Look East on the topic of encouraging women and girls into science at the recent opening of the exciting new iWorx facility at Bedford Commercial Park - you can watch the video here.
