Commenting on the news that new figures show that ethnic minorities are still underrepresented in Bedfordshire Police, Liberal Democrat candidate for Police and Crime Commissioner for Bedfordshire Jas Parmar said:

"I welcome the news that Bedfordshire Police are recruiting again. This comes after a recruitment freeze that lasted far too long when police numbers were depleted.'

"As a former police officer and member of the Independent Advisory Group to Bedfordshire Police, I care passionately about the make up of our force. I want to see action taken to make policing an attractive career choice, prioritises retention and ensures the force reflects the community it serves."

Bedfordshire Police has 126 BAME police officers overall, or 9.8% of the 1,286 officers whose ethnicity was recorded. Meanwhile, 22.5% the population served by Bedfordshire Police are BAME.
