Keeping Trees Tidy!

Mayor Dave Hodgson trimming untidy tree growth
I was happy to help out in the cause of keeping our keeping neighbourhood trees tidy and safe!

I joined the Council's tree maintenance contractors on site as they tidied up some trees in Quantock Close, Putnoe, last week. More work is being done this year thanks to the money we've put into the budget. Under the old Conservative County Council, just £1.66 was allocated per tree in the urban area of Bedford; we now spend over £11 per tree keeping trees tidy and safe.

The work in Quantock Close was to trim back 'basal growth,' which is the untidy growth around the base of trees, and we have an ongoing programme of this sort of important work to keep trees safe and attractive in our local neighbourhoods.

As you can see from the photo, while I was there the team allowed me to help out!
