There is a wide range range of events taking place across the Borough this Bank Holiday Weekend, and fortunately the weather forecast is looking a lot brighter. Amongst them is the Bedford International Kite Festival, which returns to Russell Park for free family fun today until 6pm and then tomorrow from 10am to 5pm. There will be spectacular kites and highly skilled kite-flyers from all over the world, and no doubt the spectacle will be as impressive as ever (wind permitting!).

I'll be there later on, one of over 40,000 people we are expecting to attend over the weekend. Alongside the various demonstrations in the arena will be a whole host of other attractions, food and drink, entertainment, music and kite stalls specialising in kite equipment, clothes and other accessories.

This year will see some superb cars featuring in the motor show that we have taking place on the park, while the fun on Russell Park continues into the Bank Holiday Monday, with a Battle of the Bands contest taking place from 11am to 5pm

The events over the weekend mark the start of a fantastic summer of events in Bedford. I will come back to this theme shortly, but just to mention a few we have the grand 'dawn to dusk' opening of the Higgins Bedford on June 21st, a dragon boat race on July 21st capturing the spirit of the River Festival in this 'in-between year' and much more.
