Legal challenge one of many ways to stop Parliament shutdown

1 Sep 2019

Responding to the decision at the Court of Session in Edinburgh to temporarily reject calls to block the Government's decision to suspend parliament, Leader of the Liberal Democrats Jo Swinson said "This legal challenge is one of many ways in which an anti-democratic Parliament shutdown could be stopped. Although the judge has refused a temporary halt to the Prime Minister's plans, I welcome the news that the full hearing has been brought forward to Tuesday."

Jo added "It is outrageous for the Prime Minister to attempt to silence the voice of the people at this crucial time. His plot to shut down Parliament in order to force through a disastrous No Deal Brexit does not have the support of the people or their representatives. The Liberal Democrats will continue to work with other parties to challenge the Prime Minister, in order to stop the shutdown, prevent a No Deal Brexit, and to stop Brexit altogether."
