Lib Dems Want Greener New House Building

8 Mar 2006

Cllr Michael Headley is pushing the Borough Council to bring in new planning rules for developers. New rules for larger developments would mean that rubbish from demolition and building works would have to be dealt with in an environmentally friendly way, including re-use where possible. It would also require new houses to have recycling facilities provided and bottle and recycling banks built on larger developments.

Michael Headley said "We can't continue to bury the huge amount of waste that we do currently. There is 90 million tonnes of waste produced by the construction and demolition industry nationally These new planning rules could make a big contribution to a more environmentally friendly approach to new building."
