Lib Dems Welcome Start of Election Campaign
Bedford & Kempston Liberal Democrats have today launched their general election campaign.
Parliamentary Candidate, Michael Headley said "I am looking forward to the election in Bedford & Kempston. I will be putting forward real solutions for local people. Liberal Democrats will provide quality public services in every community. We will invest in education and our NHS and give pensioners a better deal."
"Unlike the others we say where the money will come from. We will cut class sizes and scrap tuition fees across the UK. We will offer quicker diagnosis for serious conditions, provide free personal care for the elderly and will get rid of the unfair council tax. We will make the environment a priority. These are policies that I am sure will appeal to voters in Bedford & Kempston."
Liberal Democrats have been leading the challenge to Labour in Bedford & Kempston in recent years. Lib Dems have led the way starting with the Mayoral election in 2002, where across the whole Borough Lib Dems polled more votes than Labour and the Tories. In the elections in 2003 and 2004 Lib Dems topped the poll in this constituency with the Tories trailing in 4th and 3rd.
Agent, Christine McHugh said "In this election we will be giving local people a real alternative to Labour. Michael Headley is well-known locally and is the best choice to be our new MP. We have more councillors and more votes in Bedford & Kempston than the Tories. As the Brent, Leicester and Hartlepool by-elections showed, it is the Lib Dems who now challenge Labour in urban, multicultural areas like ours."
