Liberal Democrats call for reinstatement of school crossing patrols

Budget papers released yesterday state that the previous savings proposal for school crossings put forward by the Conservatives has been removed. This is due to concerns that road safety at school settings would be impacted.  This follows campaigning by Liberal Democrat Councillors against this high profile proposed cut.

Cllr Charles Royden, who represents Brickhill ward and who has consistently campaigned for school crossings to be maintained, commented, ‘Finally some sense from the Council. The Conservative Mayor’s proposals to make savings by cutting £60,000 from the school crossing patrol budget were appalling. I am delighted to see that this proposal has been dropped. Now they must actively recruit for currently unstaffed crossings and they must re- instate Hawk Drive school crossing that has already been cut despite this u-turn. The safety of our children must always come first.'
