Lincoln Arms Owners Must Halt Building's Slide into Disrepair say Lib Dems as Fire Strikes

24 Jan 2008

Local Liberal Democrats have called on the Greene King Brewery to meet its responsibilities as the owner of the Grade 2 listed Lincoln Arms Pub building and halt its slide into disrepair, after a fire damaged the historic building at Goldington Green in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Commenting, Liberal Democrat Councillor for Goldington Ward Cllr Paul Smith said:

"It is very sad to see the damage that this fire has caused to the Lincoln Arms. Many local residents I have spoken to in the past have felt that an incident such as last night's fire was only a matter of time with this once prestigious building having been allowed to reach a near-derelict state.'

"I have written to the Managing Director of Greene King, which owns the building, previously and asked for the company to carry out work to maintain the building to an acceptable standard. It is extremely regrettable that this has not happened, and we can now only hope that after the damage done by the fire that this historic local building can be repaired."
