Liberal Democrat Brickhill Parish Councillor Wendy Rider is furious that action has still not been taken to mend street lights at dangerous locations in Brickhill

Dozens of street lamps are broken across Brickhill streets and Liberal Democrat Parish Councillor Wendy Rider has called for urgent action to be taken to have them fixed. Cllr Rider reported over 50 failed street lights in Brickhill over a week ago and is furious that action has still not been taken to mend lights at dangerous locations.

Cllr Rider said, "Whilst during the day many street lights along Avon Drive are lit, at night parts of the road are in complete darkness. At the crossing outside Avon Drive shops, not only are the street lights unlit, none of the bollards or the beacon at the crossing are illuminated. This is a crossing place in complete darkness and after a week of reporting the problem the Council is still putting lives at risk. I have reported broken street lights across Brickhill and local residents will want to know why when council taxes are so high they are expected to tolerate our roads being in darkness.'

"This is a safety issue for motorists and pedestrians alike and many vulnerable people feel extremely unsafe when walking along streets in which lights are not maintained."

The street lights reported by Cllr Rider are found on main carriageways such as Kimbolton Road and Brickhill Drive, as well as smaller roads across the entire ward of Brickhill. Cllr Rider said, "I will not be fobbed off on this, it is simply not acceptable for road crossing places to be in complete darkness for over a week."
