Local school invests in new eco windows through the Mayor’s Climate Change Fund

Mayor Dave Hodgson has approved funding from the Climate Change Fund for Bedford Road Primary School's application to upgrade their windows to ultra-efficient double-glazed PVCu windows. Commenting on this decision, Mayor Dave said "The Climate Change Fund was introduced to provide funding to reduce carbon emissions of community buildings. I was very pleased to receive this application. The new windows will make Bedford Road Primary School much more insulated, saving money and most importantly reducing heat and energy loss."

The new windows are part of the school's improvement plan to become more energy efficient. This Summer they have replaced the boiler and radiators with more modern, energy-efficient models. They are also developing plans to reduce the ceiling height where possible with better-insulated suspended ceilings and are considering installing solar panels. The new windows are estimated to result in savings of almost 17 tonnes of CO2 per year, resulting in financial savings of approximately £2,455 a year.

Mayor Dave continued "It is great to see organisations like Bedford Road Primary School try to do whatever they can to become more energy efficient. It is so important that as a Borough we all do our bit to save energy, look after our environment and reduce carbon emissions. I urge any community group, not-for-profit organisation, charity, or public sector organisation to make an application to the Climate Change Fund so that we can continue to tackle climate change."
