Works to significantly improve Allen Park in Bedford have been completed and officially unveiled in the last week.

The improvements include a newly surfaced and fenced sports court, which includes two tennis courts and an enlarged multi-sports court for caged cricket, 5-a-side football and basketball.

Working closely with the Queens Park community the courts have been re-designed to meet the local need for cricket and are the first courts in the area to include cricket facilities. The courts are free to use for all.

The works have been entirely funded from contributions from housing developers and coincide with the 50th anniversary of Allen Park being gifted to the borough by the W.H. Allen Engineering works.

Lib Dem Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said: "These works have significantly improved the facilities available at Allen Park and I am sure they will be well used and very welcome indeed.

"We are continuing to work with local and national groups in order to ensure as many people as possible from across the community are able to use and enjoy Allen Park."
