‘Make sure you can vote’ urges Bedford Borough Council
The Annual Canvass of households, to update the Electoral Register, is now live. Each year Bedford Borough Council have to, by law, find out who is eligible to register to vote.
Communications (via email, letter or form) were sent, in stages, to all residential properties in Bedford Borough from 21st July. You can respond by internet or by phone. If these options are not accessible to you, the response can be posted back. If you have received a form, please do not return it if you have responded using one of the digital methods, as the Council only need one response.
As required by the Government, if you do not respond, the Council will be required to send you another communication to remind you that you need to respond and this may also involve a personal visit to your property to obtain a response.
If you have recently moved address, it is important you look out for your communication and check whether you are registered at your new address.
Laura Church, Chief Executive and Electoral Registration Officer at Bedford Borough Council, said "It's important that residents keep an eye out for letters through your letterbox about the electoral register from the council so we can make sure we have the right details for every address across Bedford Borough. Every year we check the electoral register to make sure that any resident who is eligible to vote can do so. Follow the steps we've sent so you can have your say in future elections. Help us save time and money and respond straight away online, by phone or by the return of the form."
