Making Recycling Easier- New Glass Recycling Point on Ampthill Road

Bedford Borough Council, in partnership with Morrisons, has opened a new glass recycling site at the supermarket on Ampthill Road.

The Council currently operates a network of 68 recycling sites across the Borough where residents can recycle a range of materials including glass. Last year residents recycled over 2,000 tonnes of glass and it is hoped that this figure will continue to increase as more sites are opened and reduce the amount of glass needlessly going to landfill.

Lib Dem Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said: "We want to make it easy for residents to recycle as much of their waste as possible and I am pleased we have been able to work with Morrisons to install another glass recycling site in the borough.

"Glass is perfect for recycling - it can be recycled back into new bottles and jars over and over again; used for road surfacing or in construction products such as bricks and concrete blocks."

Morrisons Spokesperson Claire Johnson said "We are delighted to have been able to offer space for a new glass recycling bank at our Bedford store. We want to help our customers recycle often and conveniently and are pleased we could work with the council to bring this new facility to the area."

The site includes six 1,100 litre glass banks.
