Mayor Dave Hodgson has announced investment In Average Speed Cameras for Turvey

This summer, the existing spot speed cameras in Turvey will be removed and replaced by a new average speed camera system.

These cameras measure the average speed a vehicle travels over a length of road, rather than measuring it at a fixed point. This encourages people to maintain a safe speed rather than just slowing down for the camera.

Mayor Dave Hodgson said "This Turvey road is a busy through-route and I am pleased that we have been able to prioritise this replacement of the old-style cameras with new average speed cameras which will make this road safer for motorists, cyclists, pedestrians and the local community. Speeding is a common concern for communities across the Borough, and the Council has invested in introducing average speed cameras in streets in Bedford and Kempston and out in the villages to help tackle this issue, and make our roads safer."

The Council does not make money from the cameras, with the fines being retained by Central Government.
