Mayor Dave Hodgson recently visited Bedford Foodbank to discuss their work.

Mayor Dave was told that the Foodbank are now feeding over 1000 people a month. This has increased from 800 people a month earlier this year and is up from 600 a month in 2020.

Mayor Dave said "I am grateful for everything that Bedford Foodbank does for the most vulnerable people in our communities. I am pleased to have been able to support the Foodbank as one of my Mayor's Charities by providing funds when possible. The Foodbank provides crucial support to those in need across Bedford Borough and sadly we have seen more people in need over the last few months and I fear this will increase in the run up to Christmas."

Sarah Broughton, Project Manager at Bedford Foodbank said " A large number of households have experienced food poverty during the pandemic due to many reasons including job loss, illness or family breakdown. These factors have contributed to a huge rise in the demand for our service in the last 18 months. We are grateful for the continued support of the Mayor and Bedford Borough Council."

The Foodbank currently need UHT Milk, Fruit Juice (Longlife), Jars of Pasta Sauce, Tinned Tuna, Tinned Rice Pudding, Tinned Fruit, Rice 250g/500g/1kg, Ham (Small Tins), Tinned Tomatoes, Tinned Peas/Carrots, Tea Bags (40/80), Soap Bars and Toilet Rolls.
