Mayor Dave: I’m Proud of Bedfordshire and our County Town Status
Mayor Dave Hodgson has described Bedfordshire as 'a great place to live,' and said he is proud that Bedford is the county town. He has also said that the county deserves a wider profile, and hailed its 'stunning countryside and vibrant towns, with landscapes and buildings alike bursting with heritage and character.'
The comments came in response to a recent survey from YouGov which named Bedfordshire as the 'least favourite' county in a list dominated by holiday destinations.
In comments provided to the new Bedford Independent, whose full story can be read here, and other media outlets Mayor Dave Hodgson said: "Bedfordshire is a small yet diverse county which is a great place to live, all of which counts for little in 'favourite counties' lists dominated by holiday destinations. I'm proud that Bedford is the county town. Those of us who love Bedfordshire and are proud of that fact need to shout about it, because it deserves a bigger profile.'
"With its rich history and culture there's a lot to shout about. Bedfordshire boasts stunning countryside and vibrant towns, with landscapes and buildings alike bursting with heritage and character. I'll be raising the flag for Bedfordshire Day on 28th November, but we should also celebrate and promote our county and its fantastic communities throughout the year.'
"I've met several times with those behind the exciting Explore Bedford organisation. I look forward to working with them to help promote Bedford Borough and bring wider attention to the many reasons to visit and enjoy this part of the wonderful county of Bedfordshire."
