It's Love Your Local Market weekend in Bedford town centre this weekend, on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th May, and Mayor Dave Hodgson is encouraging everyone to go along and support their markets this weekend and throughout the year.

On Saturday, there will be lots on for the kids with free face painting from 10-4pm and free balloon modelling from 12.30pm-4.30pm. In addition, Gumbles Amusements will be back in Harpur Square with children's inflatables and rides.

There will be plenty to see and do, with Bedford's usual Saturday Charter Market and the Handmade in Bedford Market, bringing delicious produce and locally-made items and crafts to browse.

Sunday 12th May brings the return of Bedford Flea. From 11am-4pm, St Paul's Square will play host to this unique and eclectic market of collectable, vintage, furniture, books and more.

Mayor Dave Hodgson said "We never need much of a reason to celebrate Bedford's markets, and Love Your Local Market weekend is a great chance to come along and explore all they have to offer. With lots on for children and a variety of markets for the adults to wander through, this is sure to be a great weekend for the whole family."

Bedford Borough is rightly proud of its long established and popular markets. Bedford town centre hosts a Charter Market every Wednesday and Saturday with a wide selection of goods on offer from fresh fruit, vegetables and bread on St Paul's Square to plants, fashion and accessories and household necessities on Allhallows and Harpur Square.

Kempston hosts a regular market at the Saxon Centre, every Thursday and Sunday with fresh produce including fruit and vegetables on offer.

Other regular markets in Harpur Square include the Home and Garden Market every Friday, the Farmer's Market on the second and fourth Thursday, and the Handmade in Bedford Market on the second Saturday of the month (from March to December).
