Mayor Dave’s Thanks to Firefighters Following North Wing Fire

Mayor Dave Hodgson has thanked the firefighters who tackled the large fire at the Shires House building on the former north wing hospital site in Bedford.

Up to 60 firefighters tackled the blaze on Thursday night at the disused, Grade II listed building, which was destroyed. There were no casualties.

Commenting, Mayor Dave said: "My thanks to the fire crews who tackled the fire overnight at Shire House on the former North Wing hospital site in Bedford.'

"The images of the damage to this historic building are a sad sight, but huge credit is due to all of the firefighters who worked to bring the fire under control in horrendous conditions and keep people safe.,

"Thanks to them and to everyone who provided support."
