In his latest monthly column for the Bedford Independent, Mayor Dave Hodgson has written of the benefits of his plans for the Prebend Street Relief Road and other schemes in tackling congestion and improving quality of life for local residents.

He also notes that the relief road and the long list of congestion-busting works taking place under his Transporting Bedford 2020 programme will be a boost for local jobs and the economy, helping Bedford Borough to maintain the stunning jobs growth which has dramatically outstripped regional and national rates since Mayor Dave was elected.

He goes on to comment that not only is it crucial for jobs and quality of life that people are able to travel easily within Bedford, but also to and from Bedford, adding that: "That's why I continue to make Bedford Borough's case on issues such as the works to finally sort out the Black Cat Roundabout and a fully-dualled route to Cambridge, the importance of East-West Rail services via Bedford and the retention of intercity rail services.'

"Indeed, I raised all of these issues in a meeting in Parliament with MPs in the last couple of weeks, and will continue to stand up for the Borough's interests on these critical projects."
